Did the city have sort of a retrograde time shifted feel about it? Russia always strikes me this way... From your photos it looks like you felt this way about many cities in Argentina...

Raul: I tend to gravitate toward the retrograde stuff wherever I am, so I'm not sure these are totally representative of Mendoza. But for the most part it was nicely sleepy, with lots of low-rent shopping streets that made me think of Chinatown NYC for some reason. Then out in the vineyards there were signs of lots of $$$ washing around -- but $$$ is visually uninteresting.
